Books

We have been working our way through inspirational books during our (temporary) retirement. This is the list of books we brought with us. I mention some of these books in my blog posts. They have all been great in some way. Please add suggestions for more inspirational books in the comments!

A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: How I Learned to Live a Better Story

Donald Miller

This is probably the book that inspired Leslie the most. The take home message is: Great things happen when you go for it. Regrets really come from things you didn't do. She has read about five books since A Million Miles, but she is still talking about it.

Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action

Simon Sinek

This book has been the most inspiring to me. I have a blog post that describes how: golaunch.net/blog/the-next-chapter

Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

Carol S. Dweck

This book is great for the psychology behind thinking to get the results you want. It is really about understanding you are not fixed with what you have, what your capabilities are, or what you know. The ideas help you to inspire people around you rather than create reaction (at work, your spouse, your kids, etc.).

The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich

Timothy Ferriss

This is a great starting point for paving your own path in life. Get outside of the box. I particularly like his approach to "not enough time" problems.

Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!

Robert T. Kiyosaki

I actually read this about ten years ago, but it is still relevant. The two take home messages for me: Generating passive income opens up time to work on generating more passive income. Business is where you make money, real estate is where you save it.

The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM)

Hal Elrod

This book is a great inspiration for getting started... on anything. If you follow his practice, you will find things start moving your way.

Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel

Rolf Potts

A great read for anyone who has a desire to travel. It is not just for recent graduates without any ties. It even includes thoughts and recommendations for families.

Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers

Timothy Ferriss

This is more of a compilation of perspectives than a book. We have found great viewpoints from so many different people with this book. It is also where a significant share of our reading list came from.

The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It

Michael E. Gerber

Small business owners should absolutely read this book. It gives you real life examples about how to automate your business so you can grow (or take a vacation). It also discusses challenges in business, like employees, and how to approach business decisions.

The Science of Positivity: Stop Negative Thought Patterns by Changing Your Brain Chemistry

Loretta Graziano Breuning

Maybe It's You: Cut the Crap. Face Your Fears. Love Your Life.

Lauren Handel Zander

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

Jen Sincero

Leslie just read this. She kept using examples to point out things that I can improve with (she didn't say flaws). I think I should read it soon;).
